Top 10 Best Selling Car Brands In India: March 2022

Maruti Suzuki (1,33,861 units)

Maruti Suzuki yet again comfortably takes the top spot as the Indo-Japanese company manages to sell 1,33,861 units of its cars in March 2022. This is an astonishing feat considering that Maruti Suzuki has sold more cars than the next 3 companies combined.

Though the numbers are unquestionably strong, the YoY sales for Maruti Suzuki has gone down by 8 per cent as the company previously managed to sell 1,46,203 units last year during the same time.

Hyundai (44,600 units)

Though the South Korean automaker has been holding on to the second spot for quite some time now, the competition has closed down the gap to just a few thousand units.

In March 2022, Hyundai managed to sell just 44,600 units, resulting in a YoY sales decline of almost 15 per cent. In comparison, Hyundai sold 52,600 units of passenger vehicles in March 2021.

Tata Motors (42,293)

Tata Motors has witnessed more than 42 per cent YoY sales growth in March 2022 as the company managed to sell 42,293 units.

In comparison, the Indian automobile giant only managed to sell just 29,654 units in March 2021.

Mahindra (27,603 units)

The new launches such as the Mahindra Thar and Mahindra XUV700 has clearly helped the brand churn up sales numbers.

In terms of YoY sales, Mahindra witnessed the second-highest growth in this list as it managed to sell 27,603 units, resulting in a YoY growth of 65 per cent.

Kia Motors (22,622 units)

Though Kia Motors is a relatively new brand with just 4 products, it is remarkable to see this South Korean automaker take the fifth spot in this list.

In March 2022 alone, the South Korean automaker sold 22,622 units of its cars and registered more than 18 per cent growth.

Toyota (17,131 units)

Toyota has cemented its reputation as the maker of some of the most reliable cars on earth, and it is this reputation that gives Toyota its sales.

In March 2022, Toyota sold 17,131 units, resulting in a YoY sales growth of more than 14 per cent as the Japanese automaker sold just one unit more than the 15,000 mark in March 2021.

Renault (8,518 units)

The sales of Renault vehicles took the biggest hit in this list as the French automobile manufacturer faced a negative growth of more than 31 per cent in March 2022.

Looking into numbers, Renault just sold 8,518 units of its cars in March 2022, whereas the French automaker managed to sell 12,356 units in March 2021.

Honda (6,589 units)

In recent years, Honda has been struggling to get a good grip on the Indian automotive market.

In addition to that, the Japanese automaker witnessed more than 7 per cent YoY decline in sales as the company managed to sell just 6,589 units in March 2022.

Skoda (5,608 units)

Thanks to the launch of the Skoda Slavia sedan and Skoda Kushaq SUV, Skoda witnessed its highest-ever monthly sales since the inception of the brand in India.

Also, Skoda registered a YoY sales growth of more than 383 per cent in March 2022.

MG Motor (4,721 units)

Though MG Motor is considered one of the fastest-growing automobile companies in India, the Chinese-owned British automaker sold just 4,721 units of its cars in March 2022.

While this number may look decent for a relatively new carmaker, the company registered a negative YoY sales of almost 15 per cent.
